OUR WINEMAKING IN THE HEART OF THE SURREY HILLS

CRAFTING OUR DELICIOUS ENGLISH WINES

Our winemaking process is both an art and a science and focuses on sustainability and exceptional quality. From fermentation through to ageing, blending, and bottling, we combine traditional methods and contemporary expertise.

We use only the finest grapes grown in our own vineyard to make our artisan wines. Skilfully crafted and blended, Tanhurst Estate wines are distinctive for their elegance and complexity.

Harvest is the high point of our grape-growing year when we decide when our carefully nurtured berries are ripe and ready to be picked. Each precious bunch is picked by hand to avoid any damage to the grapes.

THE GRAPES ARE IN GOOD HANDS

Depending on the weather and the grape variety, harvesting takes place from late summer through to mid-autumn. Our mix of grape varieties reach peak ripeness at different times, and then it’s all hands-on deck to get the grapes picked. The cherished crop is then rushed to our Tanhurst Estate winery for pressing. Having the winery on site means the grapes will be freshly pressed within hours, even minutes, of being picked.

This pressing varies in intensity for each grape variety, for instance, Pinot Noir have fragile skins while Pinot Meunier are more robust. The first pressing produces the prestige juice.
