A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE WORKING WITH NATURE
THE SURREY HILLS, AN AREA OF OUTSTANDING NATURAL BEAUTY
We believe that Tanhurst Estate Vineyard on Leith Hill is not just a high-quality winemaking location but also a haven for nature. We are committed to looking after our estate in ways that will protect the soil and the natural environment.
Set in part of the Surrey’s Hill’s National Landscape, every decision we take for our estate has sustainability and preservation at heart, so that future generations will always be able to enjoy the biodiversity, beauty, and tranquillity.
WOODLAND, WILDLIFE AND WILDFLOWERS
Our vineyard is surrounded by ancient woods populated with tawny owls and carpeted with wildflowers beneath an oak canopy and hazel coppice. The alder carr woodland is a nationally rare habitat and Site of Special Scientific Interest.
We own woodland to the north of our wine estate which we manage under a countryside steward scheme with Natural England supervision.
NATURE THRIVES ON THE TANHURST ESTATE
In the vineyard fields, grass grows naturally between the vine rows, and you’ll find many native species of flowers including white clover and chamomile. The grass helps to reduce soil erosion and provides valuable food for bees and butterflies.
We have a resident population of buzzards and kestrels, swallows that return every year to breed and many other farm birds including robins, goldfinches, thrushes, and skylarks.
BUY ENGLISH, BUY BETTER
Buying high quality English wine direct from the winemaker like us is sustainable and delicious. Our eco-friendly wine, produced here in Surrey, has a low carbon footprint as it travels fewer miles than wine imported from overseas. When you choose our artisan wine you will also be supporting a family-run business as well as those who work with us.
