RAISING FUNDS & GLASSES ON TANHURST ESTATE'S FIRST WINE TOUR
SHARING OUR WINEMAKING STORY
On 3rd November, we hosted a special tour of our family-run vineyard and winery to raise funds for Forest Green Village Hall. We were thrilled to welcome forty-three visitors to the vineyard on the day and to share our winemaking story with them. They also enjoyed a selection of delicious artisan cheeses, crackers and grapes along with a glass of Tanhurst Estate 2022 still rosé wine. It was a wonderful way to spend a Sunday enjoying the stunning Leith Hill views and sampling our English wine.
We also held a raffle with two lucky winners each receiving three bottles of our rosé wine. The tour and tasting event raised £685 for the village hall charity, with the money going towards the building’s much-needed repairs.
VINE PRUNING DEMONSTRATION
The tour included an immersive walk through the vines to learn how we grow and look after our grapes on the slopes of Leith Hill.
The party had the opportunity to ask lots of questions and Colin gave a demonstration of winter pruning, which will support next year’s fruiting canes. After the vineyard tour, we all went into the winery to find out more about our winemaking process. Here, Colin explained the process of harvesting, grape pressing and fermentation. The grapes we picked this year had finished fermentation and were now ageing in our steel tanks to enhance their flavours.
Everyone then savoured a sample of the Chardonnay we made last year which is still ageing in an oak barrel. Oak barrels add complexity to Chardonnay, as well as giving it a creamy texture. This lovely wine will be bottled soon.
TANHURST ESTATE WINE TOURS & TASTING BEGIN IN SPRING 2025
We are beginning our tastings and tours in the spring where we’ll provide a fascinating insight into Tanhurst Estate and our wine. Being able to guide visitors through the vines and share our local, artisan winemaking process is so rewarding, and we hope you will find it a hugely fun, informative and friendly experience too.
Whether you’re a wine connoisseur or a Saturday night sipper, our tours are designed for everyone to enjoy, and we hope you’ll join us next year.
OUR WINEMAKING
Our winemaking process is both an art and a science and focuses on sustainability and exceptional quality. From fermentation through to ageing, blending, and bottling, we combine traditional methods and contemporary expertise.
